Why I’m Skipping The Selfie.

Navigating the Boundary Between Professional Guidance and Personal Milestones.

May 13, 2026 3 min read

The “Sold Sign Selfie” is another marketing tool for the agent, not a benefit for the client. I like to think that by refusing to manufacture a moment, I preserve the professional boundary and ensure the Spotlight Shift remains exactly where it belongs: on your successful transition.

Authenticity over marketing props. A moment captured, not manufactured.

You’ve just crossed the finish line. After weeks of navigating inspections, legal jargon, and the logistical grind of a move, the keys are finally in your hand. Then comes the inevitable industry request: ”Can we get a photo of you holding this giant ‘Sold’ sign?”

"Inserting myself into your first moment at your new front door feels like a breach of that professional boundary, and an overstep into what ought to be your moment."

The Problem with the “Prop”

In the traditional real estate playbook, the closing day photo is a high-octane marketing tool. It’s designed to feed an agent’s social media algorithm, using your milestone as proof of their productivity.

Real life at the kitchen table isn’t a staged photoshoot. It’s messy, exhausting, and deeply personal. But an agent isn’t the protagonist; we are the navigators.

💡 Key Takeaway

Choosing not to be in the photo doesn’t mean I’m indifferent. My focus is on being your navigator through the long technical conversations, not the protagonist of your celebration.

Emotional Support, Not Performance

I’ve been in the trenches with you, acting as the sounding board for the stress, the pattern-recognizer for the house’s quirks, and the person holding the line during negotiations. We’ve managed the “what-ifs.” I’m there for the heavy lifting, the technical logic, and the emotional support it takes to get to the finish line.

"There is a specific kind of 'dopamine hit' that belongs to you—You deserve to experience that win without feeling like you’re performing for a camera."

I’d much rather catch up with you a few weeks later—once the boxes are unpacked and the dust has settled—to hear how the house is actually breathing. That’s the real relational work.
